As a young boy, Tyler, you and
my son were best buddies. When I first saw your dad after 9/11, he
recalled to me: "you know, they left no tree in the neighborhood
unclimbed". You went on to climb many, much bigger trees,Tyler: an
inspiration to us all. We miss you and will always remember your
inspiration: no tree is too tall to climb. -

Allen was a good friend of mine
while at SUNY Brockport in the late 70's. Even then, his friends knew he
would go on to be one of Brockport's more successful graduates. I recall
visiting Allen when he first went to work for Cantor Fitzgerald. I was
so proud of where his life was headed. Unlike many Brockport graduates
at the time, he had a strong sense of direction and I found it appropos
that he started his career at the top of the World Trade Center. Allen
and I lost touch over the years, so shortly after September 11th, I
checked the company's website and felt a whoosh of relief that Allen's
name wasn't among the missing or the dead. I was so happy to think Allen
had moved on in his career and had escaped the terrible fate of the
others who worked in those buildings. My relief turned to shock this
August, 11 months after that fateful day, when I received our Brockport
Alumni Newsletter only to see a tribute to Allen. Allen's spunk, quick
wit, generosity and kind heart defined him. I'm sad that others will
never know Allen Upton. A scholarship fund has been established for
Allen at SUNY Brockport. I thought I'd share that in the chance that
others who knew Allen wanted to find a meaningful way to honor him. I'm
sad for the times we could have had these past years, had the stuff of
life and careers not gotten in the way. I intend to honor Allen and all
the great memories I have of our times at Brockport by contributing to
his fund every year so his legacy lives in those who will benefit. Cathy

It was her best trait and her
worst: Diane Urban said what she thought, whether you wanted to hear it
or not. The habit was so well known that a relative suggested at her
memorial service that they all get T-shirts saying, "Diane Urban Told Me
Off." Sometimes the target of her sharp tongue was an underperforming
subordinate at the New York State Department of Taxation, where she rose
to No. 2 in the income tax division. Sometimes it was her superiors.
Once, she told them she was sick of training accountants only to have
them leave for better salaries. "If I wanted to be a teacher, I would
have been one," she said. Ms. Urban, 50 and divorced for more than 20
years, could also be tart with the men in her life. And she tested the
patience of her sister, Terry Corio, who withdrew from their
relationship for a few years, drained by Ms. Urban's truth-telling. "She
never backed down," Mrs. Corio said. "She was a pistol." But the sisters
always loved each other, Mrs. Corio said, and reunited last year. Ms.
Urban had recently realized her dream of buying a home on Long Island,
not far from her sister and brother-in-law. The sisters had their nails
done together, recently splurging an extra $5 to have tiny flowers
painted on their wine-colored toes. They were looking forward to pizza
and rented movies on Saturday nights this winter. -

I read about Diane in the
article on prosecution of one of the terrorists. I hope your family will
bravely go forward, knowing that Diane won't be forgotten. In the
memorial to her, it says that she always told the truth and so I hope
that you will have that opportunity -- to tell the terrorists the truth
and to see some justice. God bless you…

The greatest truth about Diane
Urban is that she is a hero who gave the ultimate sacrifice in order to
help someone else. She was on the 78th floor of Tower 2 when the plane
hit and was one of the few people who was not either immediately killed
or seriously injured. She could have tried to save herself but chose
instead to stay and help her injured friend Dianne Gladstone. These two
wonderful women perished together. This speaks more about Diane's true
character than any newspaper article can. She was a unique and wonderful
person who may not have always been perfect in everthing she did - but
then who is? As far as I'm concerned, she is an angel and I thank God
that I had the gift of her friendship for sixteen years. -
