RIDGEFIELD — It was quite an emotional
evening for the Ridgefield High boys basketball team.
The jersey of former Ridgefield star Tyler Ugolyn, who was among
the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, was retired prior to
the Tigers’ 66-61 overtime win over FCIAC rival Stamford.
Daryl Yankowski converted an offensive rebound to send the game
into overtime.
Ridgefield then took the game over in the extra session to secure
one of its biggest wins in Joe Kegler’s tenure with the school.
"We made our free throws, got momentum and took control of the
game in overtime,” Kegler said.
"Dave Lyons really stepped up. He played the game of his life.”
Lyons had a career high 17 points. It was enough to offset 17
points from Stamford’s Andre Brown.
Pat McGrath had 14 points for the Tigers, while Pete Morelli
added 11.
